Big Tech leaders closely monitor Brazilian elections

Major technology leaders and investors are closely monitoring the Brazilian elections due to the potential impact on their business models and regulatory environments. Elon Musk has expressed interest in the proceedings following betting trends on Polymarket that favored Flávio Bolsonaro in his contest against Lula.

Reports indicate significant involvement from figures associated with right-leaning tech platforms. JD Vance met with Flávio Bolsonaro in May, and Peter Thiel visited São Paulo in April with a large executive delegation. Additionally, the Rockbridge Network, founded by Vance, reportedly maintains a representative within Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign headquarters in São Paulo and proposed the creation of a technology council to advise the campaign.

These developments follow previous tensions between tech companies and Brazilian judicial authorities. Mark Zuckerberg previously commented on the challenges faced by companies in Latin American jurisdictions regarding court orders to remove content, highlighting the high stakes for the future of digital platforms in the country.
