Big Ten announces no discipline for officials or Matt Rhule
The Big Ten Conference announced it will not take disciplinary action against the officiating crew from the Maryland-Nebraska football game, nor will it fine Nebraska coach Matt Rhule for his postgame criticisms.
The conference acknowledged an officiating error during Nebraska’s 48-23 victory on Saturday. Following a roughing-the-snapper penalty, a missed point-after attempt was incorrectly allowed to stand instead of granting Nebraska a retry with enforced yardage. The penalty yardage was instead erroneously applied to the ensuing kickoff.
Coach Rhule had expressed frustration following the game, describing the officiating as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘poorly handled.’ The game saw a total of 28 penalties, with Nebraska receiving 16 flags.
