Big White Ski Resort in Canada serves as model for ultimate ski destination

Big White Ski Resort, located on the highest peak of British Columbia’s Okanagan Highlands, averages 750 cm of snowfall each year, giving it a five‑month ski season. The resort features a ski‑in/ski‑out village, a range of independent restaurants such as the Fat Marmot, Kettle Valley Steakhouse and The Cabin, and is just a 55‑minute drive from Kelowna airport.

The resort remains proudly family‑owned and operated by the third generation of the Schumann family, who have Australian roots. Senior vice‑president Michael Ballingal notes that there are no large hotel chains on site, only mom‑and‑pop businesses, reflecting the owners’ commitment to a boutique, community‑focused experience.
