Bihać prepares new combat allowances for demobilized veterans

The City of Bihać is preparing for the implementation of a new law regarding monetary allowances for demobilized combatants, scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. According to the local Department for Veteran and Disability Protection, between 8,000 and 10,000 active users in the Bihać area could be eligible for this monthly benefit.

The law, which was adopted in August, establishes an allowance of 1.5 KM for every month served in the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eligibility extends to members of former armed forces, including the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH), the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (MUP BiH). To qualify, individuals must have served at least 12 months in defense of the country between April 8, 1992, and December 23, 1995.

Officials noted that while the law is in effect, actual payments will not occur immediately due to necessary administrative procedures and the requirement for implementing regulations, which are still pending. This new combat allowance is distinct from previous existential benefits. Requests will be processed by municipal and city services based on official records and documentation.
