Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina control Bihać wildfires
The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OS BiH) have successfully brought a major wildfire in the Bihać region under control. The blaze affected approximately 70,000 square meters of forest on Mount Plješevica and in the Žegara area, threatening local civilian populations.
Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 6th Infantry Brigade utilized both ground and air support to combat the flames. Due to steep terrain and difficult water access, personnel used zip-lines to transport water over 400 meters directly to the fire site. Operations were further complicated by the risk of potential minefields and a lack of rainfall.
This recent intervention is part of a record-breaking year for OS BiH involvement in disaster response. Since May, military helicopters have flown over 176 hours to combat fires across various municipalities, including Jablanica, Mostar, Konjic, and Bihać, dropping approximately 760,000 liters of water to protect lives and property.
