Bihar announces TRE 4.0 teacher recruitment drive

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0, aiming to fill teaching positions across primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools. While initial reports indicate 32,388 vacancies, the official BPSC exam calendar mentions 46,595 positions.

A significant change in this recruitment cycle is the introduction of a two-stage process consisting of a preliminary examination followed by a main examination. This departs from previous recruitment phases that primarily utilized a single written test. The examination is scheduled to take place between September 22 and September 27, 2026, with the online application window opening on September 1, 2026, and closing on September 30, 2026.

In response to the announcement, student leaders have expressed mixed reactions. While acknowledging the advertisement as a result of long-standing protests, leaders such as Dilip Kumar are demanding that the commission maintain the previous single-exam pattern and avoid negative marking. Protesters have indicated they will continue to advocate for transparency in various competitive exams and have threatened further action if their demands regarding the examination structure are not met.
