Bihar authorities warn against eating unidentified fish from Nepal floods

Authorities in Bihar, India, have issued an urgent warning against consuming unidentified fish species that have entered the region following heavy flooding in Nepal. Local residents have already reported symptoms of illness after consuming these fish.

The Animal and Fisheries Resources Department (AFRD) of Bihar stated that these foreign fish were washed into the state from various ponds, rivers, and reservoirs. There is a high risk that these fish have been exposed to sewage, animal carcasses, and decomposing organic matter, increasing the likelihood of transmitting bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

The AFRD advises citizens to avoid eating any fish caught from floodwaters until environmental conditions stabilize and pathogens decrease. Residents experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, or difficulty breathing are urged to seek immediate medical attention.
