Bihar Cabinet Approves PPP Model for 16 Medical Colleges
The Bihar state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, approved 17 proposals in a meeting on August 5. The most prominent decision was to move forward with a public‑private partnership (PPP) model for the operation of 16 brownfield medical colleges and hospitals, appointing PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Ltd as transaction advisor and allocating ₹8.27 crore for the initiative. Other approvals included a Sports Science Centre at the state sports academy (₹25 crore), digitisation of ancient manuscripts under the Gyan Bharat Mission (₹6.23 crore), water supply projects for Jamalpur (₹102.22 crore) and Munger (₹177.72 crore), restructuring of the MSME directorate, and the creation of special courts and additional staff for various legal and welfare programs.
Separately, former Bihar chief minister and JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Delhi’s Parliament House on the same day, following a recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The encounter was described as a courteous, formal meeting, though political analysts noted it could have implications amid ongoing discussions about the recent Bankipur assembly by‑election results.
