Bihar government announces flood crop compensation before Durga Puja
The Bihar government has announced plans to provide crop loss compensation to farmers affected by recent floods before the Durga Puja festival. Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that officials have been instructed to complete damage assessments in remaining areas to expedite the disbursement of funds.
Assessments have already been conducted in 18 districts across the state. Under existing provisions, compensation is distributed based on land type: 8,500 rupees per hectare for unirrigated areas, 17,000 rupees per hectare for irrigated areas, and 22,500 rupees per hectare for multi-year crops and sugarcane, with a maximum limit of two hectares per farmer.
During a visit to Gopalganj, Minister Sinha also ordered an investigation into a breached embankment in the Baikunthpur block. He directed the District Magistrate to identify any negligence by officials. While water levels in some rivers have begun to recede, major rivers like the Ganga and Gandak continue to flow above danger marks in several locations, including Patna.
