Bihar government distributes Rs 579 crore in flood relief

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has launched an ex-gratia relief program to assist those impacted by widespread flooding in the state. Through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), the government has transferred Rs 579.23 crore to 8,27,472 affected families, providing Rs 7,000 per household directly into their bank accounts.

The scale of the flooding is significant, affecting approximately 50 lakh people across 15 districts, 88 blocks, and over 2,600 villages. The floods have also impacted roughly 55,000 hectares of land, resulting in substantial crop damage. Santosh Kumar Mall, Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, provided updates on rescue operations and relief facilities to the Chief Minister.

In addition to government action, actor and singer Akshara Singh visited flood-affected regions to offer support. She appealed to the public and the Bhojpuri industry to contribute to relief efforts, stating, “If we all come together, we can overcome this difficult situation.”
