Bihar government orders Neelam Devi to vacate Patna residence

The Bihar government has directed Neelam Devi, wife of Mokama MLA Anant Singh, to vacate her official residence at 1 Mall Road in Patna by November 25, 2026. This directive follows the immediate cancellation of her nomination to the State-Level 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee by the Cabinet Secretariat Department.

Neelam Devi had been allotted the residence under her status as a member of the committee with the rank of Deputy Minister. Following the termination of her position, the Building Construction Department issued a notice citing the Patna Central Pool Rules, 1986, which allows for a one-month grace period after the termination of service.

The move comes after the Janata Dal (United) party expelled both Anant Singh and Neelam Devi for six years due to anti-party activities. Singh is accused of disobeying party instructions, using derogatory language toward leadership, and campaigning for a candidate from the Jansuraj Party during Legislative Council elections. The JDU has also recommended to the Bihar Assembly Speaker that Singh’s membership as an MLA be canceled.
