Bihar implements IAS officer transfers amid student protests
The Bihar government has implemented a significant administrative reshuffle, issuing a late-night notification for the transfer and posting of several Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. The orders, issued by Special Secretary Sanjay Kumar on behalf of the Governor, assign new responsibilities to various officers across several districts and departments, including appointments as Municipal Commissioners for Darbhanga and Purnia.
Simultaneously, political and social tensions are rising in the state. Independent MP Pappu Yadav met with the Governor of Bihar to submit a 13-point memorandum regarding student protests and demands, including the 85 percent domicile issue. Yadav stated that the Governor expressed concern over the treatment of students and promised to discuss the matter with the government.
In Patna, PhD holders and research scholars under the All PhD Holders and Research Scholars Association of Bihar have been on a hunger strike for 18 days. Protesters attempted to march toward Lok Bhavan to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister's Office but were blocked by police using barricades and water cannons near R-Block. The demonstration, led by Kumud Patel, focuses on issues related to higher education, youth employment, and academic futures.
