Bihar launches health screening campaign for 60 million citizens

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has launched the ‘Jaanch evam Upchaar-Chikitsa Aapke Dwar’ (Screening and Treatment-Medical at Your Doorstep) campaign across all 38 districts of the state. Running from September 2 to November 30, the initiative aims to screen approximately 60 million people to ensure early detection and treatment of various ailments.

Health workers will conduct door-to-door primary screenings and consultations for citizens over the age of 30. The campaign focuses on identifying conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, cancer, heart disease, respiratory and lung diseases, and fatty liver. Based on these screenings, patients will receive treatment ranging from ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ facilities to district hospitals.

The government intends to create and maintain digital health records for these citizens to facilitate effective future medical care. Additionally, a separate campaign is underway to screen 10 million people for anemia. The Chief Minister also noted improvements in local healthcare, stating that the number of surgeries performed in district hospitals has increased significantly, rising from 2,428 in June to over 8,000 recently.
