Uttar Pradesh and Bihar face key regional elections

In Uttar Pradesh, twelve candidates have filed nominations for ten Rajya Sabha seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded eight candidates, including Dharmapal Singh, Radha Kant Ojha, and Shruti Gangwar. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has submitted two nominations, with Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhananjay Parimal Nathwani among them. Following the filing of these papers, an unopposed election for the ten seats appears likely. Scrutiny of the nominations is scheduled for October 7, with the deadline for withdrawal set for October 9. Polling and vote counting, if required, are slated for October 16.

In Bihar, political tensions are rising ahead of the elections for eight seats in the state Legislative Council's Teacher and Graduate constituencies. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has expressed confidence in a sweep, but faces internal friction. Specifically, JD(U) MLA Anant Singh has openly opposed the party's official candidate, Neeraj Kumar, pledging to work toward his defeat.

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has also challenged the JD(U) leadership, criticizing the government's handling of teacher pay scales and predicting defeats for JD(U) candidates in the Patna constituencies. Kishor has called on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to publicly endorse his party's candidates to prove the legitimacy of the government's support.
