Bihar MLC elections spark tension within NDA alliance

Recent Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) election results have triggered political friction within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Out of eight contested seats, the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) suffered significant losses, winning only one of its four allocated seats.

Adding to the tension, two independent candidates, Banshidhar Brajvasī and Rahul Raj, who defeated JDU candidates in the Tirhut Graduate and Saran Teacher constituencies respectively, have officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the candidates stated they joined the BJP to better advocate for teachers' interests, their move has fueled resentment within the JDU.

JDU candidate Abhishek Jha expressed feeling isolated within his own political family following his defeat. The shift in dynamics follows a pattern of electoral competition between the alliance partners, raising questions regarding the coordination and strategic cooperation between the BJP and JDU in Bihar.
