Bihar police investigate passport fraud involving 31 Afghan nationals

Authorities in Bihar have launched an investigation into a major passport fraud involving foreign nationals using local addresses to obtain Indian passports. Following reports from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, police headquarters confirmed that 31 Afghan citizens successfully obtained Indian passports using addresses in the state.

Of these, 30 individuals used addresses in Patna, while one used an address in Darbhanga. Additionally, reports indicate that two Bangladeshi citizens also obtained Indian passports using Bihar-based addresses.

The Bihar Police Headquarters has directed District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police in the affected areas to conduct thorough investigations. The probe will focus on how these individuals acquired local addresses and the specific documents submitted during the application process. Officials are examining whether this was an organized scam and are reviewing passport applications and residency records to identify any systemic failures in the identity verification process.
