Bihar police officer suspended for brandishing pistol at flood victims

Sangram Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Maker Police Station in Bihar’s Saran district, has been suspended following an incident during flood relief distribution. The suspension follows the viral spread of a video purportedly showing Singh brandishing his service pistol toward flood victims during a commotion at a relief material collection site.

The Saran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office issued a statement noting that the officer's actions reflected “gross negligence of duty, indiscipline and arbitrariness.” Singh will receive a subsistence allowance during his suspension period.

The incident occurred as nearly 9.87 lakh people across 169 gram panchayats in six Bihar districts—including Saran, West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur—have been affected by flooding caused by heavy rainfall in Nepal and surrounding areas.
