Bihar Saras Mela opens in Patna to support women entrepreneurs

The Bihar Saras Mela-2026 officially commenced at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, aimed at providing market access to rural women entrepreneurs and promoting rural entrepreneurship. Inaugurated by Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, the event will run until September 29.

Women entrepreneurs and artisans from 15 states, including Bihar, are participating through various self-help groups. The fair features stalls showcasing handicrafts, handlooms, decorative items, organic products, and traditional cuisine. During the event, Minister Shravan Kumar also unveiled the new logo for ‘Biharika’, a collective brand designed to give products made by Jeevika members a distinct identity and broader market reach.

The Minister emphasized the government's commitment to women's empowerment through initiatives like the Sustainable Livelihood Project and the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme. Himanshu Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (Jeevika), noted that the fair serves as a platform to celebrate the confidence, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship of rural women.
