Bihar government shifts BPSC teacher recruitment to single-stage exam

The Bihar government has announced a major change to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Examination 4.0 (TRE-4) following widespread student protests. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary confirmed that the recruitment process will now consist of a single-stage examination rather than separate preliminary and main exams. This decision follows demonstrations in Patna, including an indefinite sit-in at Gardanibagh and protests by music teacher aspirants at the Education Minister's residence.

In addition to the single-stage exam, the government is forming an expert committee led by a Patna High Court judge to suggest improvements to various examinations and address student grievances. New initiatives, including a ‘Student Support Portal’ and ‘Student Support Camps,’ have been launched to resolve candidate issues within 30 days.

The TRE-4 recruitment aims to fill 32,388 vacancies across various grade levels. Online applications are scheduled to open on September 1, 2026, and close on September 30, 2026. Candidates are required to have passed the STET 2026 exam before the TRE-4 preliminary exam begins to remain eligible for appointment.
