Bihar voter turnout exceeded US and UK levels, says CEC
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that the voter turnout in the 2025 Bihar assembly polls was higher than that of several advanced democracies, including the US, UK, France, Spain, and Japan.
The increase in participation was attributed to a successful Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls conducted over a three-month period. During this exercise, approximately 70 lakh names were removed from the rolls. The assembly polls held in November 2025 recorded a 67.25 per cent turnout, the highest for the state since Independence.
During a visit to Patna, Kumar also planned to interact with booth-level officers and launch Electoral Literacy Club 2.0 and ECINET to enhance the electoral process.
