Bihar's Flavoured Makhana Exported to Canada in First Sea Shipment

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry, flagged off the first-ever sea shipment of value‑added flavoured Makhana (fox nuts) from Darbhanga in Bihar on 29 July 2026. The consignment of seven metric tonnes was packed in two containers, moved through Mundra Port and sent to ZKV Foods in Canada.

The product was processed and packaged by Nutrivin Agro Private Limited in accordance with international quality and food‑safety standards. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, along with officials from ICAR, the District Agriculture Marketing Office and senior APEDA staff, attended the ceremony and highlighted the collaborative effort of exporters, processors and farmers.

The export is positioned as a milestone for Bihar’s agri‑export ecosystem, expected to raise farmers’ incomes by more than 50 percent, diversify the state’s export basket and boost the global profile of its flagship crop, Makhana, for which Bihar is the largest producer in India.
