Bihor, Romania petitions for urgent electric‑scooter safety plan after teen's death

A petition has been launched in Bihor County following the fatal road accident of a 14‑year‑old who was riding an electric scooter in the village of Chișlaz. The initiative, organized by the civic group INFO TRAFIC BIHOR, urges authorities to adopt a comprehensive safety plan within 30 days to curb serious accidents involving electric scooters.

The petition calls for coordinated action from the Bihor County Police Inspectorate, the Road Service, municipal police in Oradea and Marghita, and the County Prefect. It asks for visible patrols, regular checks, strict enforcement of speed limits, prohibition of sidewalk riding, and mandatory use of protective equipment. Organizers argue that the growing presence of electric scooters on streets and sidewalks, especially in Oradea and Marghita, poses a rising risk to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

The demand emphasizes that clear rules and consistent sanctions are needed to ensure road safety without discouraging sustainable mobility.
