Bijelo Polje mother pauses protest over delayed prison sentence

A mother in Bijelo Polje has temporarily suspended her protest in front of the court building after receiving news regarding a sexual predator's sentencing. The individual was legally sentenced to five years in prison last October for the sexual abuse of a seven-year-old girl, but remained free for months following the verdict.

The protest was triggered by the fact that the convicted individual had not been sent to prison despite the finality of the sentence. The perpetrator had reportedly sought a delay in serving the sentence, citing health issues.

Following notification from the President of the High Court, Milan Smolović, that an appeal to delay the execution of the sentence was rejected, the mother stated she would pause her strike for three days. She indicated that if the individual is not taken into custody within this timeframe, she will resume her protests.
