Biju Janata Dal criticizes Odisha government over Lokayukta delay and power infrastructure
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has launched several criticisms against the current BJP-led government in Odisha, focusing on anti-corruption appointments and utility management.
BJD spokesperson Dr. Lenin Mohanty accused Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari of misleading the public regarding the delay in appointing a new Lokayukta. The party noted that the position has remained vacant since the previous Lokayukta's term ended in March 2024. Mohanty claimed the appointment process only gained momentum following repeated reprimands from the Orissa High Court.
Separately, BJD leaders Arun Sahoo and Dibyashankar Mishra have demanded a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of expenditures related to electricity infrastructure. The party raised concerns regarding Tata Power's management of the distribution system since 2022, citing frequent unscheduled power cuts and low voltage despite promised investments. The BJD also alleged irregularities in the installation of smart meters, questioning why costs in Odisha are higher than in other states and why consumer meter rents have not been refunded despite a ₹735 crore state grant.
