Bikaner House controversy over Raihan Vadra's art exhibition

A controversy has erupted in New Delhi following the removal of approximately 74 photographs from photographer Raihan Vadra’s solo exhibition, ‘No Idea Is Final’, at Bikaner House. Vadra, the son of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alleged that the management demanded the removal of works documenting recent youth-led protests in Delhi just hours before the exhibition's scheduled opening.

Vadra claimed that the administration cited the current political climate as a reason for the removal, asserting that the images were merely visual documentation of events rather than political messages. He also reported that officials requested the removal of photographs featuring the Indian national flag, a demand he refused. The Bikaner House Management Society issued a statement clarifying that the photographs were removed because they were “inconsistent” with the institution's policies and standards.

The incident has drawn sharp political reactions. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the move as an attempt to silence the voices of young people, while former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot described it as censorship. Conversely, BJP spokespersons criticized the Congress party, suggesting the exhibition was being used for political purposes. In response to the dispute, Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has invited Vadra to host the full, unedited exhibition in his state.
