Bike Easy launches sustaining membership drive to support New Orleans cycling advocacy

Bike Easy, a nonprofit that has promoted bicycling safety, education and infrastructure in Greater New Orleans for more than two decades, announced an August sustaining‑membership campaign. The drive seeks to expand its base of monthly donors, which currently numbers only 55, to ensure unrestricted funding for everyday work such as teaching new riders, advocating for safer streets, and distributing bike lights.

The campaign comes as grant funding becomes more competitive and federal transportation legislation could cut money for bike lanes. In response, board member Adam Davies pledged to match every new or upgraded sustaining membership dollar‑for‑dollar up to $1,000, and supporters can receive a Bike Easy water bottle or bumper‑sticker set. Board Chair Carlos Stich highlighted recent e‑bike crash deaths and the need for community backing to continue the organization’s advocacy.

Goals for the month include adding 20 new sustaining members and encouraging existing members to increase their contributions by $5, helping Bike Easy maintain its advocacy and programming amid a challenging funding environment.
