Santa Clarita Bike Fire burns 475 acres before containment
The Bike Fire, a fast-moving wildfire in Santa Clarita, California, burned approximately 475 acres on Sunday before reaching 68% containment. The blaze ignited near Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road shortly after 1 p.m., rapidly expanding from an initial five acres to over 100 acres within the first hour due to erratic fire behavior.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for several neighborhoods, including Sand Canyon, Sandsouth, Sultus, Woodland, and MacMillan, as the fire threatened local structures. Evacuation warnings were also extended to areas such as Crystal Springs and Fairoaks Ranch. To assist displaced residents, an evacuation shelter was established at the College of the Canyons, while the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds provided an animal shelter for pets and livestock.
Firefighting efforts involved approximately 250 Los Angeles County Fire personnel and 75 U.S. Forest Service personnel, supported by aircraft including air tankers, helitankers, and Super Scoopers. While the remnants of tropical storm Rachel brought rain and flooding to other parts of Southern California, Santa Clarita experienced no recorded rainfall during the incident, leaving the area exposed to wind.
This incident follows two other recent wildfires in the region: the Bouquet Fire, which burned 1,048 acres, and the Danny Fire, which burned 150 acres.
