Bike Itaú marks 15 years with 107 million trips

The Bike Itaú shared bicycle program has reached its 15-year milestone, recording over 107 million trips. Created in partnership with Tembici, the system has accumulated nearly 6 million registrations and approximately 5 million users, covering 468 million kilometers to date.

According to research by the Instituto Cordial in São Paulo, dedicated cycling infrastructure significantly improves efficiency, with cyclists traveling approximately 18% faster on paths with dedicated lanes. However, the study also highlighted safety concerns, noting that three out of four vehicle overtakes occurred within less than 1.5 meters of cyclists, failing to meet the minimum distance required by the Brazilian Traffic Code.

The program is part of Itaú Unibanco’s climate transition strategy, aiming to support transport decarbonization. The initiative has reportedly prevented the emission of more than 33,000 tons of CO2.
