Bike Taxi Association backs Gadkari's call for private two-wheeler taxi services

The Bike Taxi Association (BTA) has expressed support for Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s call for state governments to permit private two-wheeler owners to operate as bike taxis. The association noted that this move could potentially provide livelihood opportunities for up to 8 crore people, particularly benefiting youth and residents in semi-urban and rural areas where formal employment is limited.

BTA President Amit Gawde described the minister’s remarks as a validation of the association’s long-standing position that bike taxis serve as a “livelihood lifeline” rather than a disruption. The BTA is advocating for a uniform regulatory framework across states to ensure safe and inclusive implementation. While Gadkari’s appeal encourages state-level permission, it operates within the framework of the Centre’s Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.
