Bilal Bou-Melhem charged in black market tobacco empire case

Bilal Bou-Melhem, a tobacconist from Mount Pritchard, faces charges related to running a black market tobacco empire, criminal group involvement, and weapons possession. The charges follow a series of violent incidents, including a February kidnapping where Bou-Melhem was abducted by masked men and held for a $500,000 ransom. He was later discovered by tactical police in a Dural suburb, bloodied and bound.

Court documents from the NSW Supreme Court reveal that police raids on his premises uncovered approximately 250 kilograms of illegal tobacco and 800,000 cigarettes, some found in hidden compartments. Authorities also seized $54,000 in cash suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade. Additionally, searches at his home allegedly uncovered four replica pistols. Bou-Melhem has a prior criminal history, including an eight-year prison sentence for attempting to acquire heroin.
