Bilal Fawaz retains British and Commonwealth titles with stoppage win
Bilal Fawaz successfully defended his British and Commonwealth super welterweight titles with an eighth-round stoppage victory against Eithan James at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.
During the bout, Fawaz landed a heavy right hand that dropped James near the ropes, followed by a second knockdown before the referee ended the contest at 1:14 of the eighth round. The victory earned the 38-year-old champion a £5,000 knockout bonus offered by promoter Eddie Hearn. This result marks the first time James has suffered a stoppage defeat in his professional career.
Fawaz, who holds a professional record of 13-1-1, managed to secure the win despite questions regarding his stamina during the fight. The victory allows him to retain his belts against a challenger 12 years his junior.
