Vigo and Bilbao prepare large-scale Christmas light displays

Several cities in Spain and Portugal are preparing for the upcoming Christmas season with large-scale light installations and festive markets.

In Vigo, Mayor Abel Caballero presented the city’s holiday plans, which include an 18-meter-tall three-dimensional gift box on Gran Vía. The city expects to use between 12 and 13 million LED lights and 7,000 ornamental figures, utilizing an RGBW system to allow for various color combinations.

Bilbao has also begun installing its holiday lights, maintaining a tradition of using approximately 1.5 million LED lights across the city. Local authorities have indicated that while the campaign will follow previous patterns, a new element will be introduced this year.

In northern Portugal, the municipality of Guimarães has announced its “Guimarães, Cidade Natal” program. A major Christmas market will be held at Jardim da Alameda de São Dâmaso from December 1 to January 3, offering wooden stands for local businesses to sell seasonal products.
