Bilbao commemorates Ensanche urban history with October events
The Bilbao City Council is organizing a series of commemorative events throughout October to celebrate the history and urban evolution of the Ensanche district. This initiative serves as a precursor to 2026, which will mark the 150th anniversary of the original 1876 urban project designed by Achúcarro, Alzola, and Hoffmeyer.
The program includes four free lectures held every Wednesday at the Comandancia de Abando to explore how the project modernized the city. Additionally, two guided walking tours are scheduled for October 24 and October 31, covering locations such as the Albia Gardens, Plaza del Ensanche, Gran Vía, Plaza Circular, and Plaza Elíptica.
