Bilbao launches Expodistrito art and history program
The Bilbao City Council has launched a new edition of the ‘Expodistrito’ exhibition program, which will run from September 1 until January 5. The initiative aims to bring art and culture closer to residents by decentralizing exhibitions across nine municipal centers in various neighborhoods, including San Inazio-Ibarrekolanda, Castaños, Otxarkoaga, Begoña, Santutxu, San Frantzisko, La Bolsa, Abando, and Errekalde.
The program features a diverse range of disciplines, including photography, painting, and sculpture. Notable participants include photographer Anna Surinyach, writer Agus Morales, painter Mengyin Wang, photographer Sheila Gonzalez Azcona, painter Adela Blanco, and sculptor Miguel Ángel Vázquez. The Basque Watercolorists Association (Euskal Akuarelarien Elkartea) will also present a collective exhibition.
In addition to contemporary works, the program focuses on Bilbao’s historical memory. This includes an exhibition of photographs from the 1980s at the K2 exhibition space to mark its 40th anniversary, and a presentation commemorating the centenary of the Zabala neighborhood railway housing. Other themes include the evolution of the Landera coins in Santutxu and the centenary of the Aldatz Gora mountain group.
