Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University research optimizes sustainable forage production
Researchers at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University (BŞEÜ) have published findings in the journal Scientific Reports regarding optimized forage production for sustainable livestock farming. The study, which included faculty member Prof. Dr. Erdem Gülümser, investigated the effects of mixing forage turnips and forage peas at various ratios.
Conducted over three years under the ecological conditions of Bilecik, the research evaluated how different mixture ratios impact forage yield, protein production, forage quality, and land-use efficiency. The study also assessed the effects of varying rainfall and temperature conditions across three production seasons.
The results determined that a 50 percent forage turnip and 50 percent forage pea mixture provides the most optimal approach. This finding aims to support the development of high-quality forage production, more efficient use of agricultural land, and sustainable forage production systems to meet the needs of livestock enterprises.
