Bilecik official demands transparency regarding municipal debt

Burak Sel has called for the Bilecik Municipality to publicly disclose its current financial status and total debt. Referencing a 2025 Audit Commission report that placed the municipality's debt at 323.6 million TL, Sel requested an updated breakdown to determine if liabilities have increased or decreased.

Specifically, Sel demanded clarity on debts owed to the Social Security Institution (SGK), tax offices, banks, and private contractors. He also questioned the purpose of a recent municipal council decision to authorize new internal borrowing of up to 19 million TL, asking whether these funds would be directed toward investments or existing obligations.
