YouTube expands e-commerce with Amazon and targets creator retention

YouTube is expanding its e-commerce capabilities through a new affiliate partnership with Amazon in the United States. This integration allows creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program and Amazon's affiliate programs to tag eligible products directly within Shorts, long-form videos, and livestreams. This feature aims to drive higher engagement, with internal experiments showing that product tags generated 110% more clicks than traditional description links.

Simultaneously, YouTube is working to retain top talent amidst competition from Netflix. The platform is reportedly offering multimillion-dollar incentive packages, including direct financing and revenue sharing from brand partnerships, to encourage creators to maintain exclusivity or prioritize YouTube for initial video releases. This move is intended to prevent the loss of viewership and engagement caused by creators cross-posting content to rival streaming services.

In the broader television landscape, YouTube TV has grown to over 10 million subscribers, positioning the platform as a significant player in the shifting market of linear and live content distribution.
