Bilkent Şehir Hastanesi performs 49 organ and 302 cornea transplants

Bilkent Şehir Hastanesi in Ankara reported performing 49 solid organ transplants and 302 cornea transplants during the first seven months of 2026. The solid organ transplants included 25 liver, 19 kidney, 3 lung, and 2 heart transplants.

In July alone, the hospital conducted 18 solid organ transplants and 57 cornea transplants. Prof. Dr. Erdal Birol Bostancı, Director of Organ Transplantation, noted that of the 25 liver transplants performed this year, 20 were from living donors and 5 were from cadavers.

Coordinator Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Levent Öztürk emphasized that organ donation remains the primary limiting factor in transplantation. He stated that medical teams are prepared to perform transplants 24/7, including the ability to perform four solid organ transplants simultaneously. Medical professionals at the facility issued a public appeal for increased organ donation to support the healthcare infrastructure.
