Bilkis Zulkarnain establishes fashion training school in Kumasi

Bilkis Zulkarnain, a graduate of Kumasi Technical University, has established the Alkiss Fashion School in the Sawaba suburb of Kumasi, Ghana. The workshop provides training in garment-making and beadwork to young women, offering them both professional design skills and alternative sources of income.

Zulkarnain founded the school after identifying a significant market gap in the modest fashion industry. She noted that despite Africa's creative talent, there is a heavy reliance on imported modest clothing from regions such as Turkey, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia. Through her school, she aims to empower African designers to compete in the international market and transition the continent from a consumer of global fashion trends to a leader in design and production.
