Bill Ackman pledges $400M to brain health institute
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has pledged over $400 million to establish an institute dedicated to brain research, rehabilitation, and longevity. This decision follows a medical crisis involving his 26-year-old daughter, Lucy, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in Brooklyn this past February.
Following the hemorrhage, Lucy lost her ability to speak, move, and see. She has been receiving treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. In May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency authorization to her medical team to utilize a novel cell therapy involving mitochondria, the energy-producing components of human cells.
Ackman has been documenting the treatment process on social media, expressing his goal to create a world-leading facility for human optimization and brain health.
