Bill Ackman Secures Manhattan Site for $260M Brain Research Campus
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, through the Pershing Square Foundation, has purchased a 400,000‑square‑foot life‑sciences building at 125 West End Avenue in Manhattan for $188 million. A contract to acquire the adjacent 320 West 66th Street property for about $70 million gives the foundation roughly 700,000 sq ft for a new brain‑research institute.
The campus will be developed in partnership with the Mount Sinai Hospital System and will house the Ackman Oxman Institute, named after Ackman and his wife Neri Oxman. The project was motivated by personal family health challenges: Ackman’s 26‑year‑old daughter Lucy suffered a brain hemorrhage, and Oxman lost her mother to Alzheimer’s disease. The acquisition follows a prior sale of the West End Campus by Taconic Partners, which repurposed the site from former ABC and Chrysler facilities into a life‑sciences hub.
