Bill Dundee, Memphis wrestling legend, dies at 82

Professional wrestling legend “SuperstarBill Dundee has passed away at the age of 82. His son, Jamie Dundee, confirmed the news, stating that his father died at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026. While a specific cause of death was not disclosed, it was previously noted that Dundee had been living with stage-three dementia.

Born William Cruickshanks in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee began his career as a circus trapeze artist before entering professional wrestling in 1962. He became a cornerstone of the Memphis wrestling territory, where he maintained a legendary decades-long relationship with Jerry “The King” Lawler, serving as both a fierce rival and a successful tag-team partner.

Dundee’s extensive career included multiple championship reigns, such as the AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship, and stints with major promotions including WCW and Jim Crockett Promotions. He was inducted into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017 and retired from in-ring competition in 2019. Tributes have poured in from across the industry, including messages from WWE and various wrestling personalities.
