Bill Gates announces $200 billion spending plan and foundation closure

Bill Gates has announced a major shift in his philanthropic strategy. In a blog post titled ‘The Final Chapter of My Career’ published on May 8, 2025, the Microsoft co-founder stated that the Gates Foundation will spend approximately $200 billion over the next 20 years before officially closing on December 31, 2045.

Gates also declared that his personal wealth will decrease by 99% by the time the foundation concludes its operations. This announcement follows previous discussions regarding wealth and taxation, including a 2019 exchange with Senator Elizabeth Warren concerning proposed wealth tax policies in the United States.
