Bill Gates cites four AI‑safe jobs while Chinese AI firms challenge US pricing

Bill Gates warned that only four occupations – programmers, biologists, energy specialists and professional athletes – are relatively safe from automation as artificial intelligence expands, adding that most office work will eventually be taken over by AI. In contrast, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he does not believe AI will cause mass unemployment, describing the technology as a "personal super‑intelligence" that should augment workers. A Goldman Sachs report highlighted Chinese artificial‑intelligence companies Zhipu AI, DeepSeek and ByteDance as offering models that cost roughly $1 per million tokens, far below the $4‑8 per million tokens typical of U.S. providers. Their lower‑cost designs, including the use of Mixture‑of‑Experts architectures, enable performance close to leading global models. The bank projects revenue from Chinese AI services could rise from about 35 billion yuan in 2026 to 879 billion yuan by 2030, underscoring the competitive pressure on U.S. AI firms.
