Bill Gates Received Top‑Secret ‘Q’ Clearance from DOE Under Obama

A Department of Energy (DOE) letter obtained by Republican Sen. Rand Paul shows that Bill Gates was granted a “Q” top‑secret security clearance covering the period 2014‑2021. The clearance was issued while Barack Obama was president and overlapped with Dr. Anthony Fauci’s tenure as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. A “Q” clearance typically applies to positions involving nuclear weapons design, national laboratories, critical energy infrastructure and classified scientific research.

The DOE, the Gates Foundation and Sen. Paul’s office did not respond to inquiries about the clearance. The disclosure was made during a Senate hearing where Sen. Paul sought to enter the letter into the Congressional record.
