Bill Jersey, acclaimed documentary filmmaker, dies at 99

Documentary filmmaker Bill Jersey has died at the age of 99. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jersey passed away in California on July 24 due to a coronary condition.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Jersey produced nearly thirty documentaries, frequently focusing on social issues and racism in the United States. He received two Academy Award nominations, including for 'A Time for Burning' (1966), which was later inducted into the National Film Registry. His other nomination was for 'Super Chief: The Life and Legacy of Earl Warren'.

Jersey's television work included the PBS series 'The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow', which earned two Peabody Awards and an IDA Award. His filmography also includes 'Faces of the Enemy', 'Naked to the Bone', and 'American Reds: The Rise and Fall of the American Communist Party'.
