Bill Maher comments on antisemitism in Democratic Party

During an episode of HBO’s ‘Real Time,’ host Bill Maher commented on the religious identity of Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. When CNN anchor Dana Bash noted that Talarico is a Christian who “wears his faith on his sleeve,” Maher responded, “Well, in the Democratic Party, as long as that faith isn’t Jewish, you’re good.”

Maher’s remarks regarding antisemitism within the Democratic Party drew a response from the Republican Jewish Coalition. Sam Markstein, the organization’s national political director and spokesman, stated that it is a “rare occasion” when the group agrees with Maher, but asserted that Maher is correct in his assessment. Markstein further claimed that the Republican Party remains the only political entity where American Jews can be “proudly Jewish and loudly pro-Israel.”

The discussion also touched upon the Texas Senate race between Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton, with Bash noting Paxton’s “ethical issues” in contrast to Talarico’s religious background.
