Bill Maher criticizes liberal views on Western civilization and name changes

During recent episodes of his HBO program ‘Real Time’, Bill Maher criticized various progressive viewpoints and academic trends.

Maher addressed the backlash regarding Donald Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’. He argued that liberal outrage over the renaming of a geographic feature is inconsistent with the left’s historical support for changing names and removing statues associated with American history.

In a separate discussion with Wesleyan University President Michael Roth, Maher criticized academics for their perceived negative view of Western civilization. He noted that while progressive individuals benefit from the freedoms and institutions created by Western civilization, many in academia treat the concept as something undesirable. The conversation also touched upon the changing perception of Israel as an outpost of Western civilization amid ongoing regional conflicts.
