Bill Oddie, beloved BBC wildlife presenter and Goodies star, dies at 85
Bill Oddie died on 25 July 2026, aged 85. His death was announced by his long‑time agent David Foster, who described him as “Britain’s best‑loved birder”. Oddie first achieved fame as a member of the 1970s comedy trio The Goodies, appearing alongside Tim Brooke‑Taylor and Graeme Garden. After the show ended he became a household name as a wildlife presenter on BBC programmes such as Springwatch, Autumnwatch, Birding With Bill Oddie and Bill Oddie Goes Wild, and he served on the councils of major conservation bodies including the RSPB, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and WWF. He was a vocal advocate for protecting the environment and openly discussed his struggles with depression and bipolar disorder. Oddie is survived by his wife Laura and daughters Bonnie, Kate and Rosie. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2003 for services to conservation.
