Bill Okell wins third consecutive MG Midget race in B.C

Victoria race car driver Bill Okell secured his third consecutive victory in the MG Midget race at the British Columbia Historic Motor Races, held at Mission Raceway Park on August 9.

Despite a difficult start that saw him drop to seventh place following a Le Mans-style start, the 71-year-old driver worked through the field to take the lead midway through the 15-minute race. Okell finished three seconds ahead of Kamloops driver Geoff Tupholme.

This win follows Okell’s recent performance in the Sports Car Club of America’s US Majors national touring series, where he finished fifth in the North American standings with three wins. The BCHMR event included 103 entries from across the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island.
